The Universal Principals of Alignment™ (UPA’s) are a set of bio-mechanical principals that can be applied to all yoga postures in order to bring the body into alignment. Rather than subscribing to the concept that there is only one ideal outcome of a posture for all bodies, the UPA’s celebrate and sustain all types of bodies and help them into their own ‘Optimal Blueprint’ of a pose.

When this optimal blueprint is obtained the practitioner will experience:

  • A refinement in the flow of energy in the body
  • An increased sense of strength and stability
  • A deeper sense of connection to both themselves and the greater flow of life around them.

This workshop series is suitable for any serious Yogi who wishes to deepen their Yoga practice without compromising safety and any Yoga teachers who would like to increase their awareness and instruction of alignment within the flow of their classes.

Workshop 1: Saturday 8am – 12pm

Right Side Up or Up Side Down – Working Foundation in practice.

This workshop will include a 30 minute prelude to introduce the UPA’s and the concept of the Optimal Blueprint.

Students will then be led through a practice exploring the concepts of Foundation as applied in the various places of practice, from seated and supine poses to standing and inversions.

Workshop 2: 1pm – 3:30pm

Engage for Lift Off – Muscular Energy & Strength in Practice

The introduction of Muscular energy into the practice will be used here to create and access strength.

This strength rather than weighing the body down will create the opportunity for lightness which we will use in the playful exploration of arm balances.

Workshop 3: 8am – 11:30am

Hip, Hip Hooray! – Creating Pelvic Integrity and Happy Hips

Of inner and Outer Spiral, only one is commonly cued in practice but the integrity of the pelvis and then exploration of deeper expressions of poses vitally relies on the engagement of both.

Standing poses and some really yummy hip openers move towards fun variations of pigeon pose in this practice.

Workshop 4: 12:30pm – 3pm

Shine on, Shine Bright – Backbends and the culmination of the 5 UPA’s in practice

The final UPA Organic Energy brings to practice feelings of expression and connection to the greater flow of life around us. In this final workshop the layering of the 5 UPA’s becomes apparent.

Organic energy gives us the final lift to explore heart openers and backbends.
